How Many Bundles of Shingles Do I Need?
The number of shingle bundles depends on your roof area and shingle type:
- 3-Tab Shingles: 3 bundles per roofing square (100 sq ft). A 2,000 sq ft roof = 20 squares = 60 bundles.
- Architectural Shingles: Usually 4 bundles per square due to heavier weight. 2,000 sq ft = 80 bundles.
- Waste allowance: Add 10-15% for standard roofs, 15-20% for complex roofs with multiple hips, valleys, or dormers.
Each bundle typically contains about 33 shingles (21-26 full-size for architectural). Always round up — partial bundles are not usually sold, and extras are valuable for future repairs.
